With day one of the College World Series already done we do alittle looking back and alittle looking forward to today's games.
Yesterday we had an upset from a newcomer to the College World Series. Vanderbilt beat North Carolina yesterday 7-3. That game also saw the first home run to be hit in the new TD Ameritrade Park. The home run came in the sixth inning of a tied ball game. Vandys relievers were able to shut down UNC's hitting yesterday as well, holding North Carolina to just 3 hits in the final 5 innings. North Carolina's pitching, both starting and relieving, was just alittle off yesterday. But that is all it takes for a team like Vanderbilt to capitalize on. Vanderbilt advanced to Monday nights game against Florida.
Speaking of Florida. They put a hurting on the Texas Longhorns yesterday, beating them 8-4 in the second game of the day. Texas actually jumped out to an early lead against the Gators yesterday but were unable to hold off that Florida offense. It was Florida's starting pitcher that was the key to yesterdays victory for the Gators. Randall gave up only 5 hits, no walks and struck out 5 in 6 2/3 innings yesterday. Texas tried to keep it close but their starting pitching failed them yesterday. Jungmann went only 4 1/3 innings, his shortest outing of the season. He allowed 5 runs along with 2 doubles, walked 4 batters, and threw 2 wild pitches. Texas will now have to play the 3rd rank Tar Heels on Monday afternoon. Quite a task for the Longhorns to open up with the 2nd ranked Gators and now have to face the 3rd ranked UNC Tar Heels.
In today's game we have California facing Virginia in the first game. And Texas A&M will try to avoid the same fate as it's in state rival Texas received, as they face defending national champions South Carolina in the late game. A&M will need their whole line up to produce key hits and runs not just the guys in the top of the order. South Carolina comes in ready to repeat this year, after being the only team to win 6 six straight CWS games in route to last years title.
We will keep you up to date with the games. Tell us what you think about Texas losing and Vanderbilt's upset?
Will this years champion come from the SEC? Big 12? Pac 10? Tell us where you think.

Was Vandy really an upset? Don't they have the best record in the CWS?
@Drunkin Sailor thank you for your comment. It was an upset by the way they were seeded only. Vandy has a great shot at winning it this year, they will just need their pitching to be on key throughout the entire tourney. When they face teams like Florida or Virginia they cant afford any off days.
