So our new city manager is off and running. The city of Corpus Christi brought (which the city paid over 10,000 dollars to find) Mr. Olson here to help fix some of our problems.
So far he hasn't fix any problems but has found quite a few. Mr. Olson has stated publicly that this city needs leadership and accountability. Well Mr. Olson that is nothing new some of us have been saying that for years.
Mr. Olson is also starting an investigation into bribery and corruption within our city officials. Some of us have been saying to do this for sometime as well.
Mr. Olson gave a 20 minute or so monologue during a budget meeting with the city council the other day. It was reported that this monologue brought tears to our mayor's eyes and made other council members say "wow". His monologue was about the direction Mr. Olson wants this city to move in.
Why are these council members crying and saying wow for? Isnt this what they hired him to do? He is not re-inventing the wheel here people. What Mr. Olson is doing is what should have been done by past city managers and past city councils. This one included.
It is yet to be seen if Mr. Olson can deliver on what he says. But he is off to a good start. He is developing a three year budget plan which is a great idea. He is getting rid of high paying useless positions. He is making budget cuts, some of them we are ok with others we are not.
He has already fired the city's top human resource employee. And be sure others will follow. If I were the council members I wouldn't be saying wow or crying but making sure your T's are crossed and I's are dotted.
Be sure that if there is any corruption among our city officials it will be found now. Because more people are looking for it. There would be no need to investigate something that isn't there.
Will Mr. Olson turn this city in a new direction? That we will have to wait and see. But one thing is for sure he definitely has stirred the pot.
What do you think of Mr. Olson and our city council? Tell us.
Agree or disagree at least we know what the PEOPLE think.
