MARK MAR MEDIA...A LOCAL PRODUCTION

Here in Corpus Christi Texas we have a population of over 300,000 residents. Of course these are only the recorded numbers, so the actual total may even be higher. We are the 8th largest city in the state of Texas. The city of Corpus Christi covers approximately 452 square miles. The Port of Corpus Christi is the 5th largest port in the nation. Why are we giving you all of these facts about Corpus Christi? To prove a point that this city is no small town, it is a big city.

This concerns us alittle bit here at Loose Topics. Why are we concerned you ask? Because if you take a moment and actually look around this city, it is the small businesses that make this big city worth living in and visiting. There will be readers that say that is not true, it is the big three that make this city desirable. What are the big three? 1. petrochemical (oil and gas) 2. military (CCAD) 3. tourism. On a side note here, isn't it a bit troublesome that we are a city on a bay with easy access to a plentiful Gulf of Mexico, yet fishing or seafood rank very low here. Just saying.

Back to the topic. Ok so maybe someone says those are the big three. In the real world that most of all of us live in they may be, but they provide very little to the average resident. Our refineries here rarely hire operators. Those are jobs that come open very seldom. Sure these refineries offer turn arounds for a few weeks at a time, but they provide no certain stability. As for CCAD, or our military base in general, they offer excellent jobs. Has anyone ever applied out there? The process takes years at best in order to get hired on. Now once you get on out there it is great, but they also very rarely hire and when they do it is in very small numbers. So that leads us to tourism. Besides the beach, the Lex and the Aquarium, this city offers very little in tourism. Hopefully this will change soon because we have a great city.

Ok I strayed a bit there. So if the big three in Corpus Christi very rarely hire and offer very few jobs to the community, it must be locally owned businesses that make this city worth living in and visiting.

Businesses like Mark Mar Media. This is a local media production company that offers opportunities to local filmmakers, screenwriters, and videographers. Mark Mar Media gives the independent filmmaker the chance to achieve their dreams without having to move to New York, L.A., or Austin. Imagine all of the film students coming out of Del Mar or TAMUCC, they need a foot in the door into the industry they have chosen. Mark Mar Media productions provides these people that foot in the door opportunity. Allowing these filmmakers (which includes documentaries, music videos, political ads, and just about everything else) to get their product viewed by many other companies, this is a opportunity they could really use.
