DAY 8,9,10 AND NOW 11 - FALLING BUT GETTING UP...

WELL HELLO THERE? THOUGHT I FORGOT ABOUT THIS JOURNEY I WAS ON? NO SIR, NO MAM...

BUT I DID FALL, NO I GOT KNOCKED DOWN BY LIFE. THE THING ABOUT THIS IS THAT I AM GETTING BACK UP AND GRINDING EVERY SINGLE DAY BUT LIFE DOES NOT STOP PUNCHING!!!



MY DAUGHTER WHOM IS 2 1/2 YEARS OLD HAS BEEN SICK FOR ALMOST 2 WEEKS NOW. AT FIRST MY WIFE AND I JUST CHALKED IT UP TO ALLERGIES AND THE WINTER WEATHER.  

WELL ON DAY 8 SHE DECIDED TO TURN IT UP A NOTCH ON US. SHE WOKE UP FROM THROWING UP IN HER BED. MOMMY AND DADDY CLEANED HER UP AND PUT HER IN OUR BED TO SLEEP WITH US, OH BOY WHAT DID WE DO THERE!!

NOW MY DAUGHTER HAS NEVER REALLY RAN A FEVER AT ALL AND HER SYMPTOMS DO  NOT STRIKE ME AS THE FLU KIND. THE PROBLEM IS SHE HAS A VERY SENSITIVE GAG REFLEX, SO WITH EVERY COUGHING EPISODE BOOM SHE VOMITS..

I KEPT HER HOME FROM SCHOOL THE NEXT DAY AND I DID NOT GO TO WORK. WELL ENTERTAINING A SICK 2 1/2 YR OLD IS NOT THE EASIEST THING TO DO. ESPECIALLY WHEN SHE DOES NOT WANT TO WATCH DADDY SWING SOME CANNONBALL LOOKING THINGS LOL!

SO I PUT MY WORKOUTS ON HOLD FOR THE THAT TIME FRAME, I WOULD SNEAK A QUICK 15 OR 20 MINUTE SWING SESSION IN WHEN MY WIFE WOULD COME HOME FROM WORK, BUT AFTER A LONG DAY AT WORK I WANT HER TO RELAX TOO.

ON DAY 9 THINGS GOT REALLY SCARY. NOW LET ME REMIND EVERYONE, I AM A FIREFIGHTER/PARAMEDIC HERE IN CORPUS CHRISTI AND I DEAL WITH THE SICK AND DYING ALL THE TIME. SEEING A SICK BABY IS NOT NEW TO ME AND HAVING A IDEA OF WHAT THE SYMPTOMS MEAN MAKE IT A LITTLE EASIER FOR ME. BUT HERE IS WHERE BEING IN THIS PROFESSION ALSO MAKES THINGS SCARY...

MY DAUGHTER, NOT FEELING WELL ALREADY, WAS WATCHING HER FAVORITE DORA AND FRIEND IN THE CITY SHOW WHILE SITTING ON OUR RECLINER. FROM THE OTHER ROOM I HEAR HER SCREAM AND CRY. SHE HAS VOMITED AGAIN. NO BIGGIE RIGHT. THEN SHE BECOMES REAL LETHARGIC AND JUST WANTS TO LAY DOWN. WE CHANGE HER AND CLEAN EVERYTHING UP AND ADDISON FALLS ASLEEP...

SHE WAKES TO VOMIT AGAIN AND WILL NOT EAT OR DRINK ANYTHING. OK, NOW MY SENSES START TO TELL ME THAT SOMETHING MIGHT BE WRONG AND WE START CONTEMPLATING THE TRIP TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM. WE CLEAN HER UP FOR THE SECOND TIME AND I ROCK WITH HER. SHE FALLS ASLEEP IN MY ARMS AND I START TO PLAY BACK EVERYTHING IN MY HEAD LIKE THE GOOD MEDIC I AM...

EVERY TIME SHE VOMITED IT WAS CAUSED BY HER COUGHING, SO I AM THINKING IT IS THE GAG REFLEX. STILL NO FEVER, JUST A LOT OF CHEST CONGESTION. SHE SLEEPS FOR 2 HOURS AND WHEN SHE WAKES UP, BOOM SHE IS A BRAND NEW KID!!!

SHE SAYS SHE FEELS FINE AND IS ACTING LIKE NOTHING HAPPENED, NOW WE ALL KNOW THAT KIDS BOUNCE BACK REALLY FAST BUT THEY ALSO DECOMPENSATE JUST AS FAST SO I KEEP A CLOSE EYE ON HER. WE DECIDE THAT A TRIP TO HER PEDIATRICIAN IN THE MORNING IS THE RIGHT DECISION...

AND THAT BRINGS US BACK TO THE PROBLEM I CREATED BY LETTING HER SLEEP WITH MOMMY AND DADDY. SHE DOES NOT WANT TO SLEEP IN HER BED RIGHT NOW SO WE ARE BATTLING THAT RIGHT NOW, BUT THAT IS A EASIER FIGHT FOR ME THAN HER BEING SICK...

WE GO TO THE DOCTOR AND ADDISON IS NEGATIVE FOR THE FLU AND NEGATIVE FOR RSV (RESPIRATORY SYNCYTIAL VIRUS, WHICH FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND IS LIKE A REALLY REALLY BAD COLD). ALL OF THAT IS GREAT, THE DOCTOR GIVES HER A BREATHING TREATMENT IN THE OFFICE, WHICH I STILL DEBATE BECAUSE MY DAUGHTER HAD NO WHEEZING AT ALL. THESE DOCTORS SOMETIMES DO NOT KNOW OR FORGET THAT DADDY IS PROBABLY BETTER AT ASSESSING PATIENTS THEN THEY ARE, JUST SAYING...

SHE THEN PRESCRIBES HER A INHALER, SOME ALBUTEROL AND A ANTIBIOTIC. WE GET ALL THE MEDICINES FILLED AND HOME AND GET ADDISON ON THEM AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. THE ALBUTEROL TREATMENTS ARE A LITTLE DIFFICULT TO DO AS SHE WILL NOT TOLERATE A MASK, SO IF WE DO THEM IT WILL BE WHAT THEY CALL BLOW BY, WHICH STILL WORKS JUST NOT AS GOOD. 

AFTER GIVING ADDISON HER NIGHT TIME MEDICINE SHE DID FINALLY FALL ASLEEP IN HER BED AND STAYED IN THERE ALL NIGHT! A SMALL VICTORY I KNOW BECAUSE THE NIGHT TIME MEDICINE MAKES HER DROWSY, BUT A VICTORY NONE THE LESS!



AND SO THIS MORNING MY PRINCESS WOKE BRIGHT EYED AND BUSHY TAILED. SHE SOUNDS BETTER AND LOOKS BETTER. WITH NO FEVER BABY GIRL IS RETURNING TO DAY CARE THIS MORNING AFTER MISSING 2 DAYS. AND SO THIS LEADS ME TO RIGHT NOW SITTING HERE WRITING...

WHAT DID I LEARN DURING ALL OF THIS? LIFE WILL KNOCK YOU DOWN AND OFF TRACK. YES WE WILL GET UP AND GET BACK ON TRACK BUT LIFE WON'T STOP PUNCHING EITHER. SO FINDING A WAY TO DEAL WITH THE PUNCHES AND YET STILL BE ON PACE TO ACCOMPLISH OUR GOALS IS THE TRICK...

LIKE I SAID EARLIER, I WAS NOT ABLE TO GET MY WORKOUTS IN LIKE I WANTED TO. I WAS ABLE TO SQUEEZE IN 15 TO 20 MINUTES HERE AND THERE AND WHEN I DID IT FELT GREAT. 20 MINUTES A DAY IS REALLY ALL YOU NEED FOR THE KIND OF RESULTS WE ARE LOOKING FOR. IF I WAS LOOKING TO DROP 50 POUNDS IN 3 WEEKS YEA 20 MINUTES IS NOT ENOUGH BUT THAT IS NOT THE CASE...

AS FAR AS MY DIETARY INTAKE, I KEPT IT AS CLEAN AS POSSIBLE. I MISSED MY SNACKS WHICH I HAVE STATED ARE SO IMPORTANT IN PREVIOUS BLOGS AND I STILL BELIEVE SO AND HERE IS WHY...

WHEN I MISSED MY SNACKS I NOTICED MY BODY WOULD GET HUNGRY SOONER OBVIOUSLY, BUT I NOTICED THAT WHEN I MISSED THESE SNACKS MY BODY WOULD CRAVE CARBS AND THAT IS NOT GOOD.

WHAT I TRIED TO DO IS MUNCH ON SOME PORK SKINS WHICH MAKES YOU THINK YOU ARE EATING CARBS BUT REALLY THERE IS NOT A SINGLE ONE IN THEM. WITH THAT BEING SAID I DID INCREASE MY CARB INTAKE DURING THIS ROUGH PATCH...

I ATE SOME SPAGHETTI WITH THE KIDDOS, I MADE SOME BROWN RICE AND ASIAN CHICKEN FOR THE WIFE, I FOUND A FEW PRETZELS DURING THE FOOTBALL GAME LAST NIGHT. 

SO HOW DID ALL OF THIS EFFECT ME? WELL TO BE HONEST I DON'T REALLY CARE. YOU SEE MAKING SURE THAT MY FAMILY IS OK IS MORE IMPORTANT AND NOW MY DAUGHTER IS FEELING BETTER AND WE ARE GETTING HER BACK ON ROUTINE TO SLEEPING IN HER ROOM. BUT TO PROVE THAT THIS DOES HAVE A AFFECT ON OUR GOALS, I GOT ON THE SCALE...



YOU RECALL THAT AT ONE POINT I WAS DOWN TO 193#S AFTER STARTING AT 201.8#2. WELL, THIS MORNING I WEIGH IN A T 197.3#S. SO YES THERE DEFINITELY SOME DAMAGE DONE, BUT I DON'T THINK IT WAS ALL CAUSED BY THE DIET AND EXERCISE....

YOU SEE OUR BODIES ARE EXTREMELY SENSITIVE MACHINES. THEY RESPOND TO CERTAIN THINGS IN VERY WEIRD AND UNDESIRABLE WAYS. THESE THINGS INCLUDE LACK OF SLEEP AND STRESS!!!

WHEN OUR BODIES DO NOT GET ENOUGH SLEEP AND THEY ARE PUT UNDER A LOT OF STRESS THE BODY THINKS IT IS IN A SURVIVAL MODE. WHEN OUR BODIES ENTER THAT MODE THEY WILL HOLD ONTO ANY AND ALL FAT STORAGE FOR IT DOES NOT KNOW WHEN THE NEXT TIME IT WILL GET FED. I KNOW THIS SOUNDS LIKE A STRETCH BUT IT HAS BEEN SCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN. THAT IS WHY ANY AND ALL PERSONAL TRAINERS WILL TELL YOU THAT THE AMOUNT OF SLEEP YOU GET IS JUST AS IMPORTANT AS YOUR WORKOUTS AND FOOD INTAKE. THEY WILL ALSO TELL YOU THAT IN ORDER TO REACH YOUR WEIGHT LOSS GOALS, YOU MUST FIND A WAY TO REDUCE YOUR STRESS LEVELS. GOOGLE CORTISOL!

SO EVEN THOUGH MY DIET WAS NOT ON POINT AND MY WORKOUTS WERE NOT EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED AND I WASN'T SLEEPING VERY WELL AND MY STRESS LEVEL WAS PROBABLY UP A FEW NOTCHES, I AM ACTUALLY PRETTY HAPPY TO BE WHERE I AM AT!!

YES LIFE WILL CONTINUE TO THROW PUNCHES AT ME AND I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO MOVE OUT OF THE WAY OF ALL OF THEM, BUT I NOW KNOW THAT I CAN TAKE THEM, FALL DOWN AND GET BACK UP AND CONTINUE TO FIGHT!!!



THAT IS WHAT WE ALL MUST DO, FALL DOWN - GET UP - CONTINUE TO FIGHT

SO TODAY I HAVE MIXED MY SPARK AND TAKEN MY MORNING ADVOCARE PILLS. I WILL WORKOUT WITH MY KETTLEBELLS AND THEN HAVE A MEAL REPLACEMENT SHAKE FOR BREAKFAST. I WILL GET MY SNACKS IN TODAY OF CHEESE AND FRUIT. I WILL GET MY LUNCH OF TUNA, EGGS AND VEGGIES AND DINNER WILL CONSISTS OF STEAKS WITH BROCOLI AND A SMALL POTATO. 

I WILL MAKE SURE THAT I GET ALL OF MY LUNCH AND BREAKFAST SUPPLEMENTS IN PRIOR TO DINNER. I AM ADDING A PRODUCT CALLED CARB-EASE RIGHT BEFORE DINNER TO HELP WITH ANY INCREASE IN CARBS. 

I WILL CONTINUE TO FIGHT FOR MY GOALS. AND LET'S KEEP OUR EYES ON THE PRIZE, MY GOAL IS TO LOSE 5 POUNDS THIS MONTH. THAT WILL PUT ME ON TRACK TO MY LONG TERM GOAL WHICH I WILL REACH IN SEPTEMBER ON MY 40TH BIRTHDAY!!
