What Happened to Middle America

Well my site is back up and running for now. Lets see how long it lasts ha ha.

So what has happened to middle America? You are probably asking what the heck do I mean. It seems to me that there is no longer a middle income America anymore. Its either low income or high income.

What happened to the days when one spouse would stay home with the children, while the other spouse was off at work earning the income. Only one family member working only one job to provide for his/her family. Ah what a lovely dream.

I'll tell you what happened to middle America and the lovely dream I just talked about. It's what I like to call "big government and big businesses". You see the only people now days that are living that lovely dream are people involved with big businesses. Take the oil companies for example. They are making billion dollar record profits in the first quarter alone. Yet gas prices continue to climb. I cant imagine what the yearly total of profits will be for them. Take the airline companies for example, bailed out by big government. Take AIG, Fanny Mae and Freddy Mack also bailed out by big government. Why did they do that you ask? Because big governments love big businesses. Why again right? Well thats easy, those same big businesses put millions of dollars back into campaign funds, contributions, kickbacks etc. to keep those people in the big government.

These same big businesses that make millions/billions of dollars in profit are the same companies that get the most tax breaks as well. Look again at the oil companies trying everything they can to save their 7 billion dollar tax break. Same with the airline companies and the other companies I have mentioned. They receive huge tax breaks because they say they need them in order to sustain their businesses. Well the government know these companies will make profits and then slide them alittle thank you in the form campaign contributions.

Even locally it is the same way. Who gets the big tax breaks locally? The big businesses that come in and say they want to build something and project to the city sales tax and revenue and jobs. Really where is it? Take a looke at our university here, it gets huge tax breaks as well as free land. Yep we kicked out a few youth sports leagues so we could give the land to the university. But dont worry the city built a multi million dollar sports facility with middle American taxes. So our taxes went up, we gave away land for free to a university that sits on a island, its got no where to grow. Hmm ok.

So where does that leave middle America. Right stuck in the middle is where. Because these families make just enough income to receive no assistance from local or state government. They do not make nearly enough to qualify for any breaks if any kind.

So the middle America family today goes something like this. One spouse works two jobs while the other spouse works another job. The children end up in after school programs or with sitters. Spouses barely see each other, children do not spend enough quality time with their parents. All to just make enough but to not make nearly enough. Ahh the dream of middle America.
